Today I’d like to introduce you to Bethany Ainsley, founder of Nouveau Wellbeing.
I met Bethany when I heard her speak at a recent International Women’s day event. I was inspired to share her fabulous work and story with you.
8 years ago, social entrepreneur Bethany Ainsley started Nouveau Wellbeing in a bid to tackle health and social inequalities in East Durham, UK. Whilst at university, Bethany identified a lack of suitable provision and an increasing need for affordable dance, fitness and healthy living activities within local communities.
After graduating with a BA hons in Contemporary Dance, she founded Nouveau Wellbeing established to encourage increased fitness levels, personal development and healthy lifestyle choices – helping people and communities of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to feel positive, be active and live well.
Today, Nouveau spans across the North East and Yorkshire providing over 100 classes a week, catering to all ages and abilities. Under Bethany’s leadership, the business has gone from strength to strength, recently expanding into Yorkshire. Awards such as the Young Business Person of the year in 2015, Ernst & Young Future 50 and the David Goldman prize for Innovation are a few of Bethany’s accolades, recognizing her contribution to Social Enterprise, Business and Innovation.
Bethany splits her time between running the business, speaking at public events and providing support for social enterprise and future leaders.
Bethany says: “We are dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles and positive well-being. Our mission is to engage people, where ever they are, in fun and affordable physical activity and to encourage increased fitness levels, personal development and healthy life style choices.”

I love to celebrate women who are in my eyes a ‘Health Heroine’. Sometimes they are famous women who are helping to change the world of health, nutrition and wellbeing, and sometimes they are women ‘out of the spotlight’, who are quietly supporting their families, their community, achieving their own great health goals, or overcoming personal health adversities. They are all inspirational and it’s an honour for me to share their stories and their vision for great health with you. If you’d like to nominate a special woman to feature in this article I’d love to hear from you at firstname.lastname@example.org
